As indicated in the UNL2010 Specs (available at http://www.unlweb.net/wiki/index.php/UNL2010), these candidate specs are still being discussed and reviewed, and are “still experimental and tentative”. We have explicitly mentioned that “Although formally adopted in the UNDL Foundation tools, projects and certificates, they should not be taken yet as the official specs, as they are still under construction and have not been widely discussed with the UNL Community”.
We can only say that, we have been trying to preserve, for the time being, the set of relations defined in the UNL2005, but we have been including only relations actually appearing in our working corpora (such as Le Petit Prince and IGLU). In that sense, it’s worthy mention that:
a) We have not found, for instance, any need for “cao”, “int” and “opl”, and that’s why they have not been included yet.
b) The relation “fmt” seems to be overspecified, in the sense that it could be easily replaced by the combination of two existing relations (“plf” and “plt”, for spatial notions; and “tmf” and “tmt”, for temporal notions). We’re still discussing the real necessity of it.
c) The “sentence head” has been suppressed because it seems not to be a really “semantic” relation (and that’s the reason why “smd” was suppressed in the past).
d) At last, the relation “rsn” was actually missing, but because a Wiki formatting issue, which has been already solved.
