==============================

The UNDL Foundation searches 8 (eight) interns to work in the second
edition of the project FRIDA (FRIDA-B1) in the period of August to
October 2014 (three months). Candidates must be native speakers of
French, Romansh, Italian or German. This is a part-time paid
internship (20 hours a week, CHF600.00 per month), which may be
pursued from distance (online) or at the UNDL Foundation office in
Geneva.

==============================
IMPORTANT DATES
==============================
Application deadline: July 15, 2014
Notification of accepted candidates: July 25, 2014
Internship: Aug 1 to Oct 31, 2014

==============================
REQUISITES
==============================
*Candidates must be native speakers of French, Romansh, Italian or German
*Candidates must have been approved in CLEA250, CLEA500 and CLEA750.
These certificates may be pursued online at VALERIE – the Virtual
Learning Environment for UNL – available at www.unlweb.net/valerie.
Candidates are not required to have any previous experience in natural
language processing but are expected to have some acquaintance with
Linguistics and a good command of English. The UNDL Foundation will
provide all the necessary training and academic support for any of the
tasks to be performed during the internship.

==============================
APPLICATION
==============================
In order to apply, candidates must fill in the form available at
www.unlweb.net/unlversity

==============================
DURATION
==============================
The duration of the internship program is of 3 (three) months, from
August 1 to October 31, 2014. This period can be extended up to 3
(three)
months, upon the evaluation of the intern and the availability of
entries in the database.

==============================
GENERAL CONDITIONS
==============================
Each intern is expected to create a minimun of 2,000 dictionary
entries per month at the UNLarium, a crowd-sourcing environment
available at www.unlweb.net. Normally, a dictionary entry takes less
than 2 min to be created, i.e., the expected workload is of around 70
hours per month, or 18 hours per week. Since the UNLarium is a
web-based system, the work can be carried out from distance (online)
or at the UNDL Foundation office in Geneva. In any case, the UNDL
Foundation will not pay or reimburse any expense that interns may have
concerning the internship, including infrastructure (hardware,
software, power supply, internet connection, internet provider, etc.)
and logistic support (printing material, phone calls, lodging,
transportation, etc.).

==============================
REMUNERATION
==============================
Interns will receive CHF600.00 (six hundred Swiss Francs) per month as
a full compensation for the internship activities. The UNDL Foundation
will make no deductions from any of the payments due to interns, who
will be personally responsible for any and all taxes and other
payments due on payments received.

==============================
PROJECT FRIDA
==============================
The Project FRIDA (Français, Rumantsch, Italiano and Deustch for
Analysis) aims at analyzing and linking, to the UNL Dictionary, a list
of words from the four official languages of Switzerland (French,
Romansh, Italian and German). The results are expected to be
incorporated in UNL-based applications, such as Muhit, Lily, Keys and
Tut, and, as any resources released in the UNLarium, will be published
under a CC-BY-SA Creative Commons license. The project FRIDA is
supported by Fondation Hans Wilsdorf.

==============================
CERTIFICATION
==============================
The UNDL Foundation will issue a CERTIFICATE OF INTERNSHIP, upon
evaluation, for those who have accomplished the tasks defined in the
internship contract. Those interested in validating the internship
program as academic credits must verify whether this possibility is
supported by their academic institution. In any case, the UNDL
Foundation has a legal framework to sign agreements with academic
institutions, if necessary to be accredited as an official internship
program partner.

==============================
THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM IN COMPUTATIONAL LINGUISTICS OF THE UNDL FOUNDATION
==============================
The Internship Program in Computational Linguistics is devoted to
training students for the creation and development of linguistic
resources (dictionaries, grammars, knowledge bases, translation
memories and corpora) for UNL-driven projects. The participation is
open to students enrolled in any undergraduate or graduate program in
the field of Languages, Linguistics, Computational Linguistics and
Natural Language Processing in Switzerland and abroad, and may be
pursued from distance (online) or at the UNDL Foundation office in
Geneva.

==============================
THE UNDL FOUNDATION
==============================
The UNDL Foundation is a non-profit organization based in Geneva,
Switzerland, which has received, from the United Nations, the mandate
for exploiting the Universal Networking Language (UNL). The UNL is an
artificial language that has been used for several different tasks in
natural language engineering, such as machine translation,
multilingual document generation, summarization, information retrieval
and semantic reasoning. It has been, since 1996, a unique initiative
to reduce language barriers and strengthen cross-cultural
communication in the framework of the UN.
